Dr. Scott Shannon is a pioneer in integrative psychiatry and the founder of The Wholeness Center, which he established in 2010 to bring a whole-person approach to mental health care. His career has been shaped by deep inquiry into the nature of consciousness, including formative studies under Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona. After completing his psychiatry residency at Columbia University and a child and adolescent fellowship at the University of New Mexico, Dr. Shannon dedicated decades to bridging conventional and integrative medicine.
Dr. Shannon is a founding member of the Psychedelic Research and Training Institute (PRATI) and served as founding CEO of the Board of Psychedelic Medicine and Therapies in 2021. He has served as Principal Investigator for Phase III clinical trials of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD, contributing to groundbreaking research that is reshaping how we understand trauma treatment.
A prolific author and educator, Dr. Shannon has published four books on holistic mental health and authored the first textbook in the field of integrative mental health in 2001. His writing reflects a lifelong commitment to expanding the evidence base for approaches that honor the complexity of human experience. He believes that every patient deserves individualized care that addresses root causes rather than simply managing symptoms, and he works collaboratively with patients to develop comprehensive treatment plans that honor their unique needs and preferences.
